Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
Umm, I'm not really sure what to put here. I do enjoy helping other people with there stuff, and I have betaed for someone once before, so I thought I'd give this a whirl.
Betaing style? There are styles? I don't know how I'd describe mine. I focus mostly on grammar, I suppose, but would be happy to help in other areas if you want (like plot/character development, dialogue, whatever). Just tell me, and I will comply to the best of my abilities. ^_^
As far as expectations go, know that I will try my hardest to beta you fics quickly and promptly. Right now is school for me, so I'm fairly busy, but I will try to be quick (weekends are when I'd probably get it done). If you have a certain time frame, please inform me before hand and I will make sure to get it back to you as soon as possible. Just be courteous, and I am sure we'll get along just fine. :)
Also, if I do something you don't like, just tell me (politely, of course). I will try to adjust. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
Let me see... Well, I am really good with grammar. If you feel like you want to improve on that, I'm your gal. ^_^ I can be a bit of a grammar Nazi though, so you have been warned. I am also pretty good with dialogue. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I'm not sure exactly what my weakness would be, as I haven't done it a whole lot (I have betaed before, though). Um, I suppose it would be my urge to beta TOO much. As in, get really, really nit-picky over stuff that's really just an author's preference. I do try not to though. You can just tell me if I am, and I'll back off.
I don't often do lengthy setting descriptions, so I am a little weak as far as suggesting sensorary details goes. At least, I don't really put a lot of it in my own stories. I tend to be a little more abstract, focusing more on the characters and the events than where they all are. But, that's just my writing style.
Oh, also, spelling is the bane of my existence. But that's what SpellCheck is for. ^_^ |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
Mm, let's see... Lists of stuff I read can be found in my writer's profile, as well as my preferred pairings. I would rather beta for my fav ships, but am open to others. Oh, and just to put it out there, I do enjoy a lot of crack ships, if only because I tend to pair my fav female character up indiscriminately with any male character I take a liking to. :D
Um, as far as genres...I don't think I have a particular preference. I do enjoy romance, and character studies, humor... Just about whatever, really (too much angst is not good for my health, though). |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
I would prefer to avoid yaoi. In fact, pleasepleaseplease do not send me any. I really do not like either and I do not want to beta for it. Yuri, I don't mind so much. But yaoi I'm just not interested in, and makes it hard for me to read.
I know this is kind of specific, I'm not a big fan of the whole "love-at-first-sight" theory. I don't really find it very convincing, and personally don't really want to beta a story where that is the central idea. Yeah. I like a bit more development to the relationship. I won’t rule it out entirely, if it’s done well, but…
Also, I dislike Mary Sues/Gary Stues, OCs, OOCs (though if it makes sense for the story – or it’s a humor/crack fic to begin with – it’s okay. Really, that one's circumstantial), character bashing (if it's a little in good fun it's okay. Not if it's full-out bashing. Unless you're bashing Uchiha Sasuke. Then it's okay), overdramatic and/or clichéd plot devices (especially in romance), over dramatic/over-use of angst (it hurts my brain after a while), and really bad grammar/spelling (I can only help with so much). |
