Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
As a beta, I will read over an already-made chapter to correct grammar, punctuation and spelling.
I will also try to find plot holes, contradictions and generally stuff that does not make sense,
If you ask it of me, I will also help you plan for upcoming chapters, and advise on what you should include in the current chapter, to prepare for future ones.
I will NOT come up with the next chapter, nor will I write it for you.
You need to do that yourself. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
Finding Grammar and Spelling mistakes.
Coming up with elaborate plots from small hints in the beginning of a chapter.
Deciding if I personally would want to continue reading the story after the first chapter. If I am requested for a beta, I will not stop my assigned task if I do not think the story is interesting, but if I find myself thinking that, I will make a note of it an tell the author, suggesting possible corrections that could draw more interest. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
Actually finishing my own stories. I can fix other people's all day, but when I write my own, there are so many different possibilities on the event horizon, they get tangled together and I cannot remember which one made the most sense.
Also, my own style of writing is more abstract and poetic than many stories I have read, so I may advise toward a more artistic description than in really required. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
Medium-long chapters for long stories.
Long oneshots.
Stories that I know which show/book/movie it is based off of, that I have watched. Or read. If you are not looking for plot help, just grammar, then any story will be fine. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
Songfics.
Poetry.
Anything under 2000 words
I am fine looking over one occasionally, but I would rather not. Songfics especially just do not appeal to me.
Also, If it is under 2000 words, it is highly likely that the story is either not descriptive enough, or does not have much plot to it. Therefore, if you have less than 2000 words per chapter, I advise going back and revising.
An average of 3000-5000 words per chapter is preferred.
If you have over that, I don't mind, though. |
