Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I'm new to editing etc. for people on fanfiction.net, but I'm used to writing and revising my own stories. I've also edited for school-related projects for my friends and even some acquaintances, but most recently, I've edited for Seireihime's "Grey Heaven" fanfiction. I'm confident enough in my basic skills such as spelling and grammar to completely edit, or just offer suggestions to writers who ask me to beta for them. However, when it comes to complex editing I like being able to contact the person I'm editing for to ask if it's OK to change a few things here and there. I won't do complex editing unless you want me to, so feel free to contact me even if it's just for basic editing. :D I don't really expect anything of anyone who wants me to beta for them, in fact, I'm willing to beta practically anything that involves straight romance. :D xD All that I ask is that you make sure to mention that I'm your beta when you post the writing I edited, and that you put as much effort into making your story as perfect as you can.
Basic Editing:
-Spelling
-Grammar
-Sentence Arrangement (Rearranging how long or short sentences are, but not cutting anything out besides connecting words like "and", "is", "also", etc.)
-Paragraph Arrangement (Basically the same as Sentence Arrangement except applied to paragraphing.)
-Formatting (Bolds, Italics, Underlining, and font sizes; like having the title larger and in bold for emphasis while having the actual story written in plain text.)
Complex Editing:
-Giving suggestions for story outline (Order of events)
-offering creative criticism (Being honest about how I feel about the story, and giving advice on how to make something better.)
-Re-writing a few parts of the story
-Replacing words to better describe (Example: "Sad" can be replaced with "depressed", and "exciting" can be replaced with "exhilarating".)
-Note: Complex editing involves a lot of Q and A so if you don't have time to answer questions that I have (Can I...? Should I...? Do you think...?) about the editing, it'll take a lot of time to do; especially since I would be editing YOUR story and would need your permission to change certain areas of the story because your opinion is more important than mine because the story belongs to YOU.
Also, I usually write romance stories so if you want an action/adventure story beta, I'm sorry to say I have no experience in that genre so you're looking at the wrong person... >___> Sorry... However, I'm willing to beta for anything that has romance involved (though I love Yaoi and have nothing against Yuri, I have no advice to offer and are therefore useless to your story as a beta... sorry...). I'm also up for editing psychological-type stories so if you're willing to have me, I'd love to edit these types of stories. :D
I know my profile makes me seem hard to work with, but I'm actually very flexible and friendly! :D I just tend to get very technical when it comes to writing, but the contact and talking will most likely be very light and friendly. :) I tend to talk a lot, too, so please forgive me if I rant a bit too much... >____< Anyways, I appreciate you visiting my profile! xD |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I'm not too sure about my strengths and weaknesses, but I suppose my greatest strength would be writing in first person. :D I have experience writing in first person from my "Sight beyond the Window" story, so if you'd like you can check it out for reference on my skills I guess? I'm also good at replacing descriptive words that better suit what is being described because I love using synonyms. xD In terms of genre I'm best at any type of romance. :D |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
My weakness as a beta writer would probably be my speed. :/ I work slowly so if you have a deadline or want something done by a certain date I'd probably barely make it or not make it at all. I also have little to no experience in action/adventure type writing, so I apologize, but I don't beta for these genres for mine, and YOUR sake. I also enjoy poetry but am not very good at editing poems so you can ask me about them and I can give small opinions, but I honestly am no good at poetry... By the way, fanfiction.net has been adding more genres to their list recently, and I haven't written for any of the new genres so that's also a weakness. :P I'd like to look into the new genres though. :D |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I prefer to beta romance stories, as I've mentioned many times before this. xD Well, basically I'm all for romance, and I absolutely love to beta for romance stories that involve either angst, psychological anything (horror, problems, etc.), drama, tragedy, suspense, and although it's not a genre, I love romance stories that have that bit of sensuality that just engrosses you into the plot and it's characters. So basically... I have my list below. :D
-Romance and any of the the above mentioned genres that I'd edit for.
-I prefer Teen and Mature rated fanfictions. (Does not apply to poems)
-Some form of intensity (Drama/major conflict)
-Anime, Manga, Video Games, and Twilight series by Stephanie Meyer related fanfictions.
-Stories that involve my favorite pairings. :D (Listed on my main profile for fanfiction.net)
-Straight couples
-I prefer editing from the first chapter and editing as you write, rather than having you write many chapters and stack them on me... >___>;; Though I'll attempt to edit it as long as it's not towards the ending of the fanfiction. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
There are a lot of story types that I don't exactly enjoy editing, but my list isn't just compiled of types of stories I don't like; there are also some story types I have little to no experience writing in listed.
-I'm not against it, but I am definitely no good at editing fanfictions that have original characters. (OC)
-I don't really enjoy or am not good with these genres... Action, Adventure, Science Fiction, Parody, Supernatural, Western, Fantasy, and overly gory horror.
-I don't edit for fanfictions whose original stories I have not read before, or have not completed reading.
-I don't edit for fanfictions that use a multitude of reference of which I have no access to, or have to search a lot for.
-I prefer to stay away from fanfictions that bash a character too obviously. I'm fine with subtle bashing like having the character in a not so great predicament but having too many unfortunate things happen to a character to bash them just isn't the type of story I'd like to edit.
-I'm picky about the types of things I edit when it comes to ratings so the only ratings I beta for are Teen and Mature.
-I prefer to stay away from PWP (porn without plot... or just a lemon without any storyline. Having a lemon meant to be an alternate event in a story is fine though. :D)
-Any fanfictions other than Anime/Manga, Video games, and the Twilight series by Stephanie Meyer. (Because I don't read many other types of things...)
-I enjoy Yaoi and have nothing against Yuri, but I'm no good at editing these types of fanfiction so I have no advice and I'd be of no help to you... |
