Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
As a beta-reader, you may say that I am fairly new at the concept, although many people trust me with editing of different pieces of work they have in production. I have proven successful with those previous ventures, so I feel as though I am eligible to offer my services.br /br /

My beta-reading style can sometimes depend on how familiar or how interested I am in the topic. Unfortunately, if the work does not capture my interest, I have a tendency to skim only for the main details, and the process is long and gruelling (for the author and myself). If the work captures my interest, I can read through the work quickly, and pick up most, if not all of the details, and get back to the author with the results as quickly as possible, allowing us both the opportunity to relax for a time.br /br /

My expectations of any that wish to acquire my services are fairly simple. You've got to be literate, you've got to know your topic inside out, and you've got to be dedicated. If you aren't, it really will not make you look as though you are worth my time and bother, in which case, you would have to move on to someone else (that's just the way it is). |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I am very good at checking for grammar and spelling. Also, I try my best to make sure that the story's ideas match up throughout each chapter (to keep up a flowing pace). |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
Weakness wise, I am not so skilled at punctuation. As in, semi-colons, colons, and dash marks (to quickly describe a subject for a brief moment, then return to the main idea), are something I tend to struggle at. Also I will hound anyone who mutilates a canon plot line, or tries to create their own plot line and fails miserably. That's not really a weakness, but something I feel very strongly about, so it's more of a fore-warning. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
Fantasy and fictional stories, of course. To be more specific, well-known fiction from authors that I am very familiar with. This leaves a fair window for different varieties. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
Things like Anime or Manga, or anything that involves overly sexual content, or homosexuality. Incest as well. Others would include short stories (one chapter), depending on the length, as I do not feel that beta services would be required the most for that style of work.br /

Also, I would rather not read stories that are based from a topic that I do not know well, or an author that I am not familiar with. |
