Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I beta read for basically anything. As much as I will protest that I'm against certain things, I find it quite easy to set those dislikes aside and proofread. I can be as harsh or easy going as you want me to be when looking over things.
Normally, I can finish looking over things rather quickly if your spelling and grammar is at a decent level. However, if you're looking for me to criticize in terms of storyline, etc. that may take a little longer.
I usually accept requests through an email attachment or a file sent through an MSN conversation, but I'm more than willing to try the DocX system that FFN just set up too.
I expect that as someone I am proofreading for, you hopefully won't put too much pressure on me. As fast as I can normally get things done, I am in high school and do have homework and other such things to attend to, and grades do take priority. I hope that you wil respect the fact that I may not be able to get a piece looked over on the day that it is sent. As well, I hope that you will be able to accept that I'm not the very best at critique and that my strengths are at the technical editing (grammar, spelling mistakes). |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
To be honest, my strength is the speed at which I can proofread and grammatical and spelling technicalities, because Word does not always catch those mistakes. In writing, I...well, I'm not quite sure anymore. I will leave that for you to decide. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
Unfortunately, I am not quite able to criticize professionally in terms of a story's characterization or storyline yet. I can make basic observations, although a lot of it may just go over my head. I apologize. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
Got anything kind of disturbing? Does it involve genetic manipulation, boarding schools or assasins (good, half-brainwashed ones) in some way? Is your writing style a bit different (as in, different wording style, large use of adjectives) than the norm? Then I'd absolutely looove to beta for you. Or if it involves Tokio Hotel (as characters) in any shape or form. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
Does it involve original characters paired with the main characters? I'm not saying that I absolutly flat-out refuse to beta for you, I'm merely stating that I may not be able to offer an opinion to the best of my abilities due to bias. And, I find the point of beta-reading poetry rather redundant, I apologize. Also, if it involves ear injuries (i.e. suicide by shoving something in someone's ear) or nail injuries (ripping off someone's nail, shoving things underneath) then I'm sorry, but I am afraid I may not be able to handle it. As in, I may throw up over my keyboard. Again, I apologize. |
