Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
Though I'm not taking on new chapterfics, I'll take on however many oneshots are thrown at me, as long as they meet my standards below.
If you want me to beta for you, I want whatever you're doing to have some effort put into it. I'd like for each chapter to have more than 1000 words, unless there's a good reason against it. I don't tolerate chatspeak in the least, and the plotline should make sense. Like, if you put the characters in a situation or even another world without explaining why, I'm going to question why the story is worth reading.
I'm online at least once every day. There will be times when I'll be unavailable for a few days at a time, but usually I'm on very often. So, you can expect me to beta your story and send it back within a day or two. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I read through slowly and can catch almost any grammatical or spelling error. If a sentence doesn't look or feel right, I can suggest ways to change it up in order for it to better make sense. I have a pretty strong sense of story and completion, so if you have trouble with storyline or endings, I can usually help with suggestions.
I don't have a problem with long chapters. In fact, I encourage them. I really don't mind beta-reading a huge story, as long as you don't mind that it may take me a while to do. I can be thorough.
I don't normally worry about comma placement, as long as it makes sense. Most people don't mind that stuff, anyway. But, if you want me to focus on fixing that, I can. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I can have a hard time coming up with entire ideas for a story, mostly because I feel that the main storyline belongs to the writer.
Also, I can't really help with fixing romantic situations. I don't have a lot of experience in that area, and have a hard time with that kind of thing myself. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I don't have a lot of preferences, as long as it's in-character. I'll read a bit of romance, as long as the relationship is actually justified and not just there because you want to push two characters together. But, the kind of stories I really like are the ones with strong plots that don't rely on that kind of relationship. That, and I totally enjoy family/friendship love.
I'll also read dark, angsty 'fics, but if you've got an action-adventure, or a comedy...Yeah, I'll be excited. xD |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
I'd rather not read anything with strong sexual content, yaoi/yuri, or incest. Mary Sues and Gary Stus aren't welcome either. Sorry, but that's just not how I roll.
And, I don't like stories without the actual characters. Unless you can really get me to like your OCs, I won't read for you. |
