Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
As a beta-reader, I'm trying to rid the world of injustices such as bad spelling, punctuation, grammar, and the like. I haven't taken 'official' lessons to learn how to use such things, but I generally pick up knowledge along the way.
When I beta for someone, I like to make small changes in the document in bold. I create a second document to explain my changes, and to suggest places where the writer may need to alter something themself. I'm also willing to discuss plot ideas to help smooth them out, if necessary.
Sometimes I may take a while to finish betaing your work - I am a writer myself, and I do need to take some time to work on my own things - but I will get it to you eventually. The less of your work I have to beta at a time, the faster I'm going to be able to get through it.
I ask of anyone who requires my betaing services to be respectful. That doesn't mean you have to be a suck up, just be friendly :) |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I do well in finding ways to reword sentences. The syntax of some sentences can be awkward, and I'm able to find alternate ways of arranging them so that it flows more easily. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
One problem with my betaing is the alternate national spellings. I'm from Australia, and so some of my words are or can be spelt differently to people from America (like 'spelt', for example). It's not neccesarily wrong, just a national difference. I won't try to change these national differences in your work so that they're the Australian version, but sometimes I may not know if a word spelt incorrectly for my culture is incorrectly or just a national difference. If it's such a hassle, I will let you know in my notes, though.
As I stated in my profile, I've never actually had lessons for the purpose of teaching me which grammar or spelling is correct. Most of it is what I've picked up from various books or comments a person has made. If I try to change something you KNOW is the correct version, feel free to take it up with me. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
No particulars. Just the ones in the fandoms I've selected. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
Nothing smuttish. I've selected the K-to-T rating, but some people still don't know how to rate their work D:
Also, no yaoi, yuri, shounen ai or shojo ai, please. |
