Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I'm available to beta-read oneshots or short, completed chapter fics but unfortunately school constraints mean I am unable to take on any long term projects. If you're interested in having me look over your work I can offer two services: basic proofreading for grammar/vocab/spelling mistakes or a more thorough read-through involving plot, characterisation and style. I will send you back your story with in-text annotations and possibly a separate comment sheet if you ask for a thorough read. I try to be positive in my comments but I'm not always successful, so please only contact me if you're actually willing to go through an editing process.
Due to the aforementioned school constraints I would appreciate it if you would PM me with a request before sending me any work. I will of course take you on, it's just that we may need to discuss a turnaround time that suits the both of us.

My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
Spelling, grammar and punctuation. Use of literary techniques and word flow. In several fandoms (notably HP) I can be a pretty handy canon/fact-checking machine. Plot holes. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
Turnaround may be slow when school becomes hectic. I won't be able to create plot for you. My knowledge of British and American colloquialisms/idioms is relatively sound but I won't be able to Britpick or USify your work. I will not be able to improve your sex scenes. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
If you'd like a thorough beta I'd prefer it was in a fandom I'm more familiar with. If there's a problem I'll let you know. I prefer darker fic over fluff. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
I won't take on a WIP or a long chapter fic, even if it's completed. It'd do both of us a disservice, at least for the time being. Other than that, I will beta just about anything but I would appreciate it if you gave me a summary (with appropriate warnings and pairings) before I open the fic. Once again, if there's a problem (exceptionally graphic & gratuitous violence against women and gratuitous self harm may ring alarm bells) I will let you know. I will not beta stories that star an OC as the main character. |
