Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
Agh! I've just been trawling through profiles looking for a beta of my own and I've realised how frustrating it is to know what you want but not be able to find it.
That aside, I love reading stories here, but am incredibly sensitive to spelling errors so I thought I'd register as a beta. If you have a preferred way of exchanging chapters, let me know, but I usually use Word, highlighting my changes in red, so that you can change them back if you don't like them. I have constant internet access at the moment, so I should be able to get chapters back to you fairly quickly. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I'm good at picking up spelling mistakes, and my grammar is pretty good (my mum's an english teacher). I'm big on flow and realistic characters. I love making suggestions, though I won't be offended if you ignore them. By the same token, don't be offended if I tell you that I don't really like something. I think I'm a reasonable editor across the board, if you're looking for a bit of everything. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I like short sentences too much, and dislike lots of description. My grammar is not perfect, and I might spell things the Australian way. If you want your story to be specifically in American or British English, let me know. I'm not as good at action scenes, and I sometimes forget where characters physically are in relation to each other when writing/editting scenes. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I'll give anything a go, but I quite like a bit of mush and a few laughs in my stories. Adventure is always fun too. I'm currently fairly obsessed with Twilight, the Covenant, Gossip Girl and Firefly, so perhaps they'd be preferred, but then I'm beta-ing a Harry Potter fic at the moment, so I'm still pretty much up for anything. In the Twilight 'verse in particular, I'm in love with the werewolves. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
Like I said, I'll give anything a go. I can do M rated, but I'm not very good at slash. |
