Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
Hello prospective/blooming/flourishing authors! I am here to be a beta, if you need one. I will beta your stories to the best of my ability. I, personally, think I beta pretty well. However, if you are looking for sugar-coatings, YOU WILL NOT FIND THEM WITH ME. I try not to be mean, but I will be honest. Brutally so, if need be. However, understand that what I tell you is constructive criticism. I am trying to make your story better. I am not trying to be cruel. So don't get defensive on me, because if you do, I will stop betaing for you. Also, you don't have to take all of my advice. If you think a word that I deleted should be in there, by all means, stick it back in.
And please, for the love of all that is written, write with correct grammar and complete sentences. I beg of you.
The way I beta is by changing the color of the words where I make corrections, so people can see it better. However, I don't really know how this beta thing works, so if for some reason I can't change colors, I will use ALL CAPS. EASY TO SPOT, RIGHT??
There are also some stories I am obsessed with and know waaaay too much about. So if one of my corrections is something you've never heard of, just leave it alone and go, "wow, she's WAY too into this..." |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I, personally, am pretty good at writing oneshots and songfics, and I'm very good at working with characters other people have made up. My own characters, however... eep. I don't really want to talk about it. I love character analysis, though. And overanalysis. But none of this has ANYTHING to do with the fact that I will beta anything (as long as I have read the book/seen the movie). Chapter stories, songfics, oneshots, character insights... whatever you throw at me. I can take it! I (for reasons unbeknownst to me) love checking people's stories for grammar mistakes. I hate learning about it in school, but to tell everyone the truth, I want to be an editor when I grow up. A big reason is because I love editing (or betaing- whatever you want to call it), but a significant reason is that I don't think I'll be able to support myself by writing books or acting. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
Hmmm... my weaknesses... None. Just kidding. Here I go... hope no one hates me...
First I'd like to say that I have anger management issues. I've gotten better since I was little, but I have been known to throw chairs at people who REALLY get to me. Don't worry, though- that only happened once. I like a good joke as much as the next person (probably more- I am also notoriously prone to laughing. LOUDLY.), but take it too far, and I might get really angry at you.
Also, no one is perfect. If I make corrections you don't like, DON'T GO ALONG WITH THEM. I am not your God, your slave driver, or your employer. It's your story. Do what you want with it. But if I don't get everything just right, like lets say... you find a typo after I've read it over. I apologize in advance, but don't get mad at me.
I have other faults, but none of them have to do with reading/writing/editing that I can think of right now. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
There's no type of story I prefer, but please stick to things I know. the only way you'll know if I know it is... ASK ME! I'm very open to conversation. PM me if you need a beta, and I'll tell you if I can. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
Only things I don't know will I not beta. Anything else, even if I don't like the actual plot, I will beta. I will just tell you my opinion on the plot. Which is only an opinion. But nothing rated M. At least, nothing rated M for... adult things... violence I'm ok with, but I don't think anyone rates things M for violence. That's just movies. I mean, how gory can you get while DESCRIBING something? I mean, it can be creepy, but still... you can't get the gushing blood like you can on the silver screen, no siree. I'll do it if it has that three letter word that starts with an 's' in it, but not if that's all that it revolves around. |
