Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I am a very throrough beta-reader. When dealing with me, understand that I will ask permission to correct all spelling, grammatical, and sentence structure errors. However, I will tell you what I've changed and the final sentence is up to you. I will let you know when your sentences are confusing; your story has no plot line; your characters are out of order; and whether or not your personal style needs to be developed.
I will not soft-coat things for your enjoyment, neither will I be rude. I'll make a professional effort into beta-ing your story, and will let you know of any limitations I feel that I or the story have as according to your personal expectations.
Don't be afraid if I hold onto your story for a long time without giving you immediate feedback. It does not mean that you have many mistakes, it just means that I'm considering the paper very carefully or life simply got in the way momentarily.
Overall, I can promise to get all and any obvious mistakes, however, sentence structure and style are things that need to be dealt with on the part of the writer. I'll be sure to converse with you at every point of the beta-ing process, unless you'd prefer a quick revision.

My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I capture spelling and grammatical errors easily through many years of writing and reading stories and novels myself. I have experience with several different styles of writing and will not descriminate whether or not I like the style. I will not change your story or the basic plotline, and prefer helping the writer help themselves so that they will not need a beta later on.
I prefer to help a writer become a better editor than simply do everything for them. Independence is a strength of mine I prefer to pass onto others rather than being depended on. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I've discovered that my sense of organization requires work, as I can follow abstract random thoughts very well even if the transistions seem faulty. I'll try my hardest to improve this skill imparticular.
I will work hard to give my best opinion of the writing and not the story. I am an opinionated person and I will only give my opinion of a story and plotline if the writer desires one in order save face and egos. I don't expect to constantly insult others, I simply expect writers to become defensive over their story-lines. I do the same and wouldn't appriciate someone telling me that my story doesn't do it for them. I'll be sure not to judge unless you want me to. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I can read any type of story, whether spiritual, romantic, adventurist, to poetry, and enjoy it. However, I have greater experience in reading certain subjects. These include: Inuyasha, Naruto, Avatar: the Last Airbender, Death Note, Full Metal Alchemist, Fruits Basket, Wolf's Rain, Harry Potter, Maximum Ride, X-Men movies, cartoons, and some comic experience, Teen Titans, Ben 10 original and Alien Force, Life with Derek, Doctor Who, and a great variety of movies. And little things like: the Cat Returns, Girl Got Game, Cowboy Bebop, Powerpuff Girls, Pokemon, Digimon, Howl's Moving Castle, Ouran High School Host Club, Samurai Champloo, Scryed, Blood and Chocolate, Catcher in the Rye, Holes, Mighty Ducks cartoon, and various little things that no one has really heard of.
These are the things that I have the most experience with. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
I would not be comfortable giving an opinion on certain stories because I don't fully know the characters or the plot line despite having read or watched the series. If you would like me to look at them anyway, it's at your own risk. These include: One Piece, Gravitation, Yami no Matsue, Big O, Blue Seed, Card Captor Sakura, Sailor Moon, Dragon Ball Z or otherwise, Chobits, Evangelion, Gundam Seed, Hellsing, Her Majesty's Dog, Legal Drug, Loveless, Love Hina, Lupin III, Paranoia Agent, Read or Die, Shaman King, Withc Hunter Robin, Midnighters, Twilight, and various books and movies.
