Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
Conditions:
1) I will not read or beta fics in which an OC is a major character, or in
which an OC is the love interest of a canon character.
2) I may turn down a beta request for any other reason, which I am not obligated to explain.
3) If I accept a fic to beta, I might take a few days to give feedback.
4) The fic has to be in a fandom I'm familiar with. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
Comparatively speaking, I have a good eye for inconsistencies in plot and characterization. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
Am not a professional writer, nor do I have any specialized training in writing. I can only beta from the perspective of a reader. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
As yet, no strong preferences. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
Not into crossovers.
No OC-as-main-chara or "OC as canon chara love interest" fics please.
I've enjoyed some canon chara/OC pairings in a few fandoms, but to be honest, the vast majority of OC love interest fics that I have seen are clearly fanfic writers' self-flattering ego trips. There are some exceptions though. People have the right to write egotistic fics or Mary Sues as long as they are not hurting others, but to be on the safe side I'm steering clear of all canon chara x OC pairings for beta readings, because such OCs are often dear to the writer's heart, and I don't think I can give honest feedback that does not hurt the writer's feelings. |
