Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
As a beta-reaader i would expect to have my opinion respected. I'm not going to go to all the trouble of reading somebody's work just to have all my suggestions and/or changes shot down out of hand. On the other side of that, if the writer really felt strongly about it, i'd have no problem with them arguing their case against something i'd changed.
My bete style would mainly be to hunt for punctuation and spelling mistakes that can be missed just by staring at the same document for ages and ages but i would make slight changes to wording if i felt it was needed. I would try to keep these changes to the absolute minimum though. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
My strengths would be my style and punctuation. I have a strong sense of what words should go where and timing of the piece. Espescially if you want to go for dramatic effect, i've gotten better at doing that as well, i could offer help to anyone that needed it in that arena. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
Spelling would probably be the biggest hurdle. I'm good at spelling in English but i have no concept of American spelling. All those z's and o's looking for employment in words where they have no business being generally insults me.
It's not a major problem but if the alpha writer happened to be american then i wouldn't really be able to help with the spelling side of things. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I have no real preference to stories that i would beta. I mainly write rom/coms, some fantasy and i've recently gotten more into the action side of things. So that's what i'm good at, but i'm not restricted to that. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
Slash is an iffy area for me. I'm not a major slash fan, i have no problem with it, i just don't usually go out of my way to read it. Feel free to send some my way, i just can't garuntee i'll accept.
Rape and child abuse are another thing i'm not comfortable with. If your stories have these matters as content chances are that i will say no.
Both of these are negotiable, but just a head's up anyway. |
