Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I'm a fairly picky beta-reader. I tend to notice even the smallest of mistakes while reading any sort of story. I know there are others like me, which is why I believe every story should be thoroughly beta-tested before submission as mistakes, small or huge, can be very distracting.
A basic beta-read for me is reading over the document and highlighting every spelling mistake that there is to be found. After that, I focus on punctuation, and lastly grammar. I give the document a read-over at least 5 times before I am happy with what I have pointed out. However, I can do more advanced beta-reading if required. I am an English/English Literature student so if you would like a beta-reader who can analyse the strengths and weaknesses of plotlines and characters then I would be a good choice.
The kind of acquiring author I'd like to get is someone who is very uncertain of things like grammar and punctuation. But I will take on practically anyone.

I believe I have a good sense of how sentences should be structured, and how they follow each other. I know the way sentences should be laced together instinctively. I'm also an excellent speller and analyst. |

Sadly, paragraphing and names are two of the things I don't excel in. If you're concerned about the layout of your story, or the spelling of names, I'm afraid I won't be able to help. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I would prefer to beta-read horror/angst/romance stories, because these tend to be my favourite genres. I also tend to sway toward these such fan fictions:
Harry Potter
Ed, Edd and Eddy
A wide range of anime such as the ones in my main profile
Devil May Cry
All I ask is that the plot makes sense and is consistent, and matches its genre. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
Yuri and Song-fics. I don't have experience in these stories and therefore won't be able to properly beta-read them. |
