Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I'm a potential English major who likes writing stories and searching for hope in the fandoms I love. Perhaps beta-ing tales will help me find joy in my fandoms. My expectations are that if you're writing a story, all aspects of the character and world are fleshed out as they are in canon |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I'm pretty good at catching spelling errors before they happen, even with homophones. The only time I get that red squiggly line is with names or terminology that isn't incorrectly spelled. Yep, I've added just about every name and bit of bookverse terminology to my spellcheck in just about every form just to avoid that damn red squiggly line in Word. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I'm not really a strong writer myself, so I can't help build plots for others, and I tend to use and abuse alternate characterizations in my writing, so I'm not the best for judging OOC-ness. If you want a characterization-judger, use someone else. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I'd prefer stories that are character-driven. I also would love some missing scene/song interpretation fics that don't just rely heavily on the original dialogue and lyrics. I'll try not to be too picky about pairings as long as it's not pure crack. I love alternate Points of View, and after writing Fiyero's quest, developed a taste for process-of-thought/first person present, if done well. Exploring what-ifs of various crossroads would be great too. (What if Frex loved his wife's first daughter? What if Ferio crushed on Hikaru instead of Fuu? What if Elphaba hadn't gone to the mauntery after Fiyero died? What if Fiyero complimented Elphie instead of telling her that she didn't have to Galinda-fy herself?) |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
I'd prefer to not have to beta stories that involve sex scenes. Implied sex is fine whether slash, femslash, het, or other, but nothing explicit. Also I would prefer not having to read the tales of the characters in worlds that they weren't in once. So no High School AUs, cast replacement parodies, or that sort of thing. (Although I might not mind crossovers that are alpha-world heavy enough to be posted in its section over crossovers.)
Also, I would prefer to stay away from things that are songfics or will become songfics. |
