Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I can read pretty much everything that doesn't have horrible grammar, Mary Sues, etc. So, if you want me to beta your story, YOU have to be satisfied with it. I guess I'll want to have at least one chapter already posted up, because then I get a sense of your writing style and everything when you write normally.
I usually just make the corrections and/or suggestions in a different color, and then send it back to you via e-mail. Then I just review and tell you everything I liked and disliked in the particular chapter, so don't expect too many comments on it when you get the edited version. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
My teachers in the past have personally made sure that our braines were hardwired to good grammar, so I guess that helps. I tend to be picky about writing, which, I suppose, can be both good and bad. I'll occaisionally put some suggestions while I'm editing about your writing style, so I guess that would help you improve. |

Sometimes, when I'm really busy, I tend to miss things. I'm also used the US... way... of English, so if I make seemingly obsene spelling changes, that's because it's the US way of spelling it. Please be sure to tell me what kind of English you prefer to use, since I can easily adjust to it. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
It has to be... generally good. Like, the kind that you can read without immediately having to rush to the bathroom to puke. The author(ess) must have relatively good grammar. (If English isn't your first language, just tell me. I'd accept that.) And it has to be somewhat realistic, even for a fantasy. (Come on, you KNOW that protagonists never single-handedly beat... an army of giants, even if they're in fantasy books. They always have help, though sometimes it's indirect help.) |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
Nothing with horrible grammar (unless English isn't your first langauge, and your most fluent language isn't up here.) because my eyes literally burn at the sight of horrible grammar, Mary Sues, OOCness, and all that. Unless it's a parody, but that would only cover the last two examples. |
