Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I'm an avid reader and writer and have been enjoying it for many years. To me, writing and reading is one of the only ways to get away from everything and immerse yourself in a different world.
I don't have a particular style... My methods are pretty simple. You send me your work, and I'll read it. I'll check for grammar, punctuation and spelling. If I have a question or idea about a certain part, I'll make a note of it. If I have any other ideas, like something you could do later in the story or something I think you could change, I'll also jot it down somewhere and let you know. You don't have to agree with my opinions; I'm only sharing them with you, to help you with your work. After I go over the chapter, I'll send it to you asap and wait for feedback.
My expectations? Well, I'd like to get an actual chapter or at least part of one. I can't really do much with just a few ideas, because that's all it is - ideas. In order to edit or read through, I have to have more than just the foundations for a story. I'm not writing the story - you are. I'm just someone to give assistance or guidance. Also, I only want ONE chapter at a time. I can probably handle a few stories at a time, but I would be too swamped to have multiple chapters of multiple stories to work with.
I don't want a lot of profanity. The use of it every once in a while is fine, but I won't accept it if there's a lot of it all over the place. The same goes for all that other "mature" stuff. Basically, I don't want that R-rated content.
Keep in mind that I won't always be available for BETA-reading. We all have lives out of writing, no matter how important it is to us. Also, there will be times where I possibly won't be able to help much with your story. Sometimes I come across fics that either don't really need my help or...well, can't get it. However, that doesn't happen very often, so...I wouldn't worry about it. I will always do as much as I can to help.
Besides that, I'm pretty open for whatever you throw at me. I know it seems like a lot to ask of you, but it's actually really easy stuff to follow. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I'm really good with punctuation, grammar and spelling. I usually don't even use spellcheck whenever I work, and sometimes find myself correcting people in casual conversation.
I love reading and writing, and I have for many years. I always get great remarks from my english teachers, and can usually adapt to whatever subject or unit they teach with ease.
I'm a hard worker. I don't quit til the job is done and I'm satisfied with it. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I'm what some would call a perfectionist. I'm one of those people who would stay up til 3am working on a paper because it has to be flawless when I turn it in. I'm not always like that, but...it's a curse I got from high school.
I also sometimes procrastinate... Again, it's all thanks to high school.
I'm generally pretty terrible with character names. When it comes to little details like that, I sometimes have difficulty creating something out of thin air; but mostly, it's names that throw me off. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
Well, the stories I usually read are the types I'd prefer to BETA...
My typical genres of interest are:
Action/Adventure (This one is probably my favourite.)
Fantasy
Humor
Drama
Mystery
Romance
Sci-Fi
I also write poetry (though usually blank verse), so I'm fine with that genre. |

Well... To be honest, I'd probably be okay with just about any genre. I'm pretty open to the types of fics I get.
I just don't want that R-rated stuff, as I said before. Keep it at least remotely clean. |
