Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
Hi, I already do beta work for six authors. You can see my style of writing by checking out my profile. I help tighten up a persons work and quite often rewrite whole sections when necessary to make the story flow the way an author intended. My work has been acceptable to all I have been assisting for the last six months. I'm retired and usually turn around work within a few days. I'm mainly a SWAT Kat reviewer/writer/beta. I have beta'd original work, Harry Potter, and Anita Blake. I have no problem doing beta work for mature fiction both het and slash. I do expect the author to be plain with me if something isn't what they wanted. I expect the author to not try and post a piece after they have taken it back from me and redid something. After all it is my reputation here as well. If you want or need to change something I've done please have the courtesy to let me proof it again before posting. A polished work is what should be posted. Something both I and the author would be proud of. Please do give me credit for my hard work. Normally a short statement at the beginning that says I beta for you is appreciated. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I'm 55 years old and spent 20 years in the Air Force as an administrative technician. I'm an excellent speller and know most of the grammar rules. I do have spell checker and grammar capable systems. I'm able to eliminate redundant sentences, reduce sentences and paragraphs until they say what is needed to carry the story. I do not make value judgments and try very hard to hold to the story line the author is trying for. I make notes at the bottom of a finished piece to let the author know what he or she needs to do to improve their writing skills or their story plot as well as ask for guidance when something in the story doesn't make sense. I've traveled the world in the Air Force and I'm wide read. My favorite subjects now is paranormal romance but I used to collect Star Trek, comics of all types, science fiction, vampires/weres/psychic stories, watched Forever Knight, Equalizer, Man from Uncle, the Dresden Files, an avid SWAT Kat fan, love the x-man from long ago, Eureka, and the Biker Mice from Mars to name a few. I'm also on several forums and post my work on many other sites. I do not like the current stuff on TV so don't watch any of it anymore. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I don't always know the right description for some of what I do. I'm an amateur but apparently I do manage to get across why I do something. I'm a perfectionist but not driven by it. I prefer to catch all the errors but am sensible enough to know I can't get them all. I do have family still in the nest but I do try to make time to get things back to people on time. I can be forgetful but not often. |

I'm more knowledgeable on these stories: SWAT Kats, Harry Potter, Star Trek, Man from Uncle. I can do some original work on most any subject. Prefer paranormal stuff. I'm mainly a SWAT Kat writer. I am a writer of mature fiction so I have no problem with erotic fiction either het or slash. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
No politics, religion and definitely no anime. No incest, war, extreme violence, westerns, the newest cartoons (except Loonatics Unleashed), soaps, sappy romance, mary sues. Anything else, just ask me. I'll let you know if I'm not up to the task or uncomfortable with it. |
