Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
As a beta-reader, I will first tell you what I beta. I beta spelling, punctuation, grammar, characterization, plot, canon elements, overall impression, depth in description, word choice, word usage, etc. This does not mean I have an impressive ability in these skills, as everyone makes mistakes.
After the beta-ing, I will probably give you a few suggestions to improve your story. Please do not feel offended by this. Betareaders exist to give you constructive criticism. If you only want praise, publish it without asking one.
If you wish to "acquire my services," then the following should help you out. I expect you to be polite, forgiving of my mistakes, patient, and to send your newly-beta'd story to a different beta-reader to make sure my mistakes are corrected. Remember, you want your story to be as close to perfection as possible!
Oh, and when asking for me to beta your story, please please PLEASE do not write formally. To tell you the truth, it makes me uncomfortable, and embarrasses me to a point. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
Some of the things I am exceptional at are spelling, punctuation, plot, and characterization. I know this because when I read my friends' stories, I grow annoyed over tiny details in the previously stated sections. But, if you wish to know one of my biggest pet peeves, it is chatspeak. Please refrain from using chatspeak in your stories, unless someone wrote it or is saying an expression, i.e., "OMG!" or "WTH?" These annoy me greatly, and because I am unsure if you are cursing or not that is probably what you will end up with. A curse word. If you send me a note stating what it means (i.e., "OMG" whenever Bill says it means "Oh, my goodness" but whenever Molly says it she means "Oh, my God," or whenever Johnny says "WTF?" he's trying to say "What the freak?" but whenever Dan says it he says "What the fuck?" etc.) |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I'm a bit lower-than-average when it comes to grammar. Especially all the "me and him" or "her and I" stuff. (GASP! I SAID "STUFF"! DON'T USE THAT, I KNOW I'M A HYPOCRITE!) Also, no matter how much I pay the deepest attention to a fandom's plot, if I have not seen/played/read all of it, then I will not realize if a canon element is missing or not. I don't know if this matters much to most people, but it matters a LOT to me. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I will accept M, sex, OOC, AU, and yaoi/yuri stories. Anything below that is fine, too. Msex is OKAY. I also would prefer you to be prepared to pay me. (holds out hand expectantly) Haha, just kidding! |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
Please, NO mpreg. Males don't have babies. I'm sorry, but come on, enter at least a LITTLE reality. I don't care if it's in some weird dimension you made up specifically for your story--MALES DON'T REPRODUCE. They help, but they don't do it themselves.
Also, no Sailor Moon. I apologize, but Sailor Moon is DEFINITELY not my cup of tea.
And no "s/he was just dreaming it" stories. D:
Nothing else comes to mind. |
