Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
Hiya! I'm Lin. Please, please, PLEASE! read my likes and dislikes before you ask me to beta something for you. I'm getting tired of saying no to hetparings and ...well...pairings that I flat out hate...so, don't waste your beta searching time, and don't waste mine, thanks =D

I'm a very "hands on" and "communicative" Beta. I like talking, and asking a lot of questions about the story. I want to know where you would like to go, when you like writing, what stories you've read that you liked the style. I learned english in Britain so my spelling is a bit off...but I have lived in America since I was 7.
I will try my best to Beta for you but if English is not your mother language and the story and structure of it sounds like something off of Babel Fish translation I won't even bother with your story. I'm not gonna spend my time acting as translator, so please find someone else.

What kind of story? (one-shot, or multi chapter fic)

Is it Regular or AU? (regular like everything as is in the series, or AU as in something like putting the Naruto Characters into a high school. AU is Alternate Universe)
When is this story taking place? (Like if it was Naruto I'd ask how old you want them to be? Is it going to be after Time Skip? ect.)

My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I am a grammar Nazi. I'm good at spotting plot holes and places where facts don't match up or make sense. I have very good knowledge about the Naruto series seeing as I am up to par with the Japanese series and not the english. So yes, that means I'm in Shippuden. My Word has a Naruto/Japanese dictionary, so I have correct spell check for those things. I also have ToS dictionary! I'm well versed in Death Note because I watched it before it hit america, I love Avatar but I don't know much about the plot line since I'm waiting to view the whole series together one day, but I do have lots of helpful hints on battleing! And I know the characters and such. I'm also obsessed with YGO (the first one, not the gay GX).
Another thing is I'm a perfectionist when it comes to names and ages, so that's a good thing. I also prefer using Japanese way to write names, as listed in my weaknesses.
Also!!!! I make can help you think of summaries/chapter titles, if I know what you want the story to be about and you're having a writer's block. Which reminds me...I'm very nagg-y in wanting updates. At LEAST once a month is good for a story...though I'm one to speak...I need to update Ameagari as soon as my writer's block is dead...ed. :D
I check my e-mail at least 5 times a day, and I read very quickly. If I Beta you're story and you give me the draft chances are:
If given in the morning during weekends you'll get it back within 5 hours. Or before nightfall
If given over vacation you'll probably get it back within a couple of hours seeing as I have no social life.
By the way, I live in Eastern Time (GMT-5)
I have no problems with Lemon's and Limes, I'm actually very good with them, I've written some things that aren't posted on here or anywhere at all that are very good lemons. I guess you tend to pick it up if you read as many romance books as I do. Yes, I'm a romance book junkie, my room is littered with them...ehehehe... |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I don't spell well but I have a wide vocabulary. That's why spell check exists anyways.
My writing style is a little different, so certain ways i word things you might have to read the sentence twice to double check, but I could always fix that. I prefer to spell things the Japanese way, I don't know if that is a weakness or not (ex. Uzumaki Naruto, not Naruto Uzumaki). And the way I spell...I learned english while I lived in England, so naturally, that's my style.
I'm also very picky about the stories I read. I won't bother Beta-ing a story where the english is so horribly translated that I can't understand what your trying to say. I like serious story writers, not someone who will give me a copy of their story and not respond for weeks on end.

Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I will only work with Yaoi in the Naruto series, YuYu Hakusho, YuGiOH, Death Note, Avatar: Last Air Bender, and Tales of Symphonia. They are the only places where I have experience with the story line/characters. I'm a little rusty with character names, and YuGiOh I'm new at, but other then that I should be fine, that's why Google exists.

Crack stories.
They're called crack for a reason. They're not supposed to make sense.
I'd rather read one-shots or serious fics. Stories that involve romance suit me best, I'm not that good with character death...I don't cope well. =/
And I absolutely flat out refuse any non-yaoi stories. Sorry, but I'm more comfortable (and have more experience) with yaoi. Not only that but another thing, if I say I don't want non-yaoi/shounen-ai I mean it. So don't ask me to do SasuSaku stories or something, the answer will always be no. Not because I have a thing against Het Pairings...but I also hat that particular pairing with a passion
And I won't even look at you're story if ya sp3ll liek dis. If you want you're story beta-ed please try to at least spell correctly...so I can at least read enough to Beta. =) |
