Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
When I started posting my stories here, I didn't have a beta. When I read over that early stuff now, I cringe. Now I never post without someone having read it or having edited it. I believe that sometimes, you read what you want to read and you can't see your own errors, because you're 'in' the story. As a beta, I'm not in your head. I only have what you write to understand your story. If I have changes, I mark them in a different color, I don't change your original writing so you are the judge ultimately. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I'm a total stickler for grammar and spelling, as well as punctuation. Sure, I studied the rules in college, along with everybody else, but I just have an eye for the rules. I recognize slang has its own rules, but they're rules just the same. But I also look for the flow of a story, if the reader can understand its meaning and if I know the fandom, if it's in character. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I don't pretend I'm perfect, I know I'm not. So I can't guarantee I catch every error, every time. But every suggestion I make will be clearly marked and it will be at the author's discretion to make the change or not. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I know a lot about the Buffy, Angel, Firefly, Marvel and Janet Evanovich fandom, those are my preferred ones. But I'll beta anything, I love to read and put my $0.02 cents in. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
I can't think of anything I wouldn't read |
