Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
Hey. Kinda new at this, so. . . I'll be reading for the basic grammar or spelling errors. If you want me to read your story, be prepared to receive a list of suggestions(criticism) about what you can do to improve your work including, but not limited to: the way the paragraphs are set up, the way the conversation is written, what the characters are doing during the scene, what types of detail to add, what to elaborate or, how to make it clearer what is going on, and how to make the characters seem more like themselves if they are not in character. I also would rather beta stories that had all LEAST SEEN THE SPELL CHECK, because if I run through and everything is underlined red I will know that you just sent this for me to re-do. Should circumstance provide I will most likely use the comment feature on MSWord to make any suggestions. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
Spelling! And grammar! |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I don't do mushy-gushy, "I love you, You love me, we're all happy family." bull. I need something I can seriously work off of. The writer needs to have a spark of good writing skills in their own rights, and I don't like betaing for people who have no sort of elegance in their writing style or respect for fellow authors/reviewers. Also, I am not an english teacher. I will more often miss a comma or two, but I will learn from my mistakes. I don't do good fight scenes or M-rated scenes meaning I cannot write smut. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I prefer to beta stories with at least a smidgen, or a hint, of romance in them. I do all 'types' of love, though I prefer friendshippy love though between characters of the same gender. I usually (sometimes I do)have no preference in the genre category. I'll try not to be biased, but I might make jokes about certain characters in the story and make fun of pairings, though I'll try my best not to. I have my own favorite pairings, and you have yours. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
Scripts. Text talk (cu l8er. ttyl) things like that makes me extremely pissed. I do not appreciate wRItinG LiKE 7h15. Those native to the English language who cannot bother themselves to learn how to write in it also irritate me to the point of a figurative explosion. In the end I will just start spitting acid. Oh, though I also draw the line at necrophilia. |
