And that's all. You could send me some under Cartoons or Comics, but there's no guarantee for those. There aren't any chances I'll beta anything else.
My priorities and method of beta-reading is to skim through the entire document and pick out spelling and/or grammatical mistakes. Next priority to that is to criticise the plot of that chapter/oneshot/songfic, in which I will read closer and pick out any other grammatical/spelling mistakes that I had missed previously at the same time. I don't take long doing beta work, so if any requests are on a rush for uploading, give me maximum twenty minutes and it's a work done, unless I have other requests at hand.
However, if your writing has no sense at all, is so stupidly written that even a five-year-old can write better, or contains any form of 'netspeak/L33tspeak', don't you even dare think of sending it to me.
I don't like to deal with people who aren't the least bit 'rational' or 'civilised'. If you can't even be polite in your requests or the least bit 'human' when you speak, don't bother.
A big note: I'm strictly 'Brit' in English. Not that I don't tend to write American English at times (some minor slips, really), but my beta-ing would absolutely be taking the form of British English. So if I point out that you should be writing 's' instead of 'z' or adding a 'u' in a word, it's because of that. Or you could always just tell me beforehand that you write in American English and I'll look over those tiny differences. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
Grammar and sentence structure. These have always been my strongest points. Rephrasing sentences is a past-time of mine.
My vocab is not as superb as others, but it is relatively good and can sort of be depended on; but if you want something better, there's something called the 'thesaurus'. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
Procrastination. Unless you give me a deadline, I can put aside any work assigned for as long as possible just to catch up on my own hobbies, mainly reading off ff.net, reading manga/books and watching animes.
Blunt. Unless you don't like the truth and nothing but the cold, hard truth from my point of view, I suggest you don't look for me for any sort of judgment. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
Horror. It's a bit of a selfish matter, really. I'm working on my 'Horror' skills, so I like to read others' works to see what kind of plots/characterisations/etc. people would tend to think of and categorise under 'Horror'.
Humour. Another selfish preference. If I'm ever feeling down, I'd love a 'Humour' story to cheer me up, no matter how little.
Friendship. I'm a sucker for stories about the strength of a bond, particularly in 'Friendship'. Ban and Ginji of Get Backers is a good example here.
Angst. I write Angst, watch Angst, read Angst, live Angst, LOVE Angst. So don't be shy to give me all your Angst-filled stories. If you succeed in making me cry or my heart ache for the characters, I'll tell you and you'll know that you've done well in this genre.
Tragedy. Unless it's badly played out, the method of death; otherwise, I'd love to read one.
Romance. I'm a bit of a Romantic, but I can't handle sap. I adore fluff despite myself and I can deal with eroticism and PWP's are more or less an entertainment source. I find it strangely amusing that people can write smut for the sake of writing smut. Perverts, the lot of us. Not that I've ever attempted a smut before. Yet.
Erotica. As mentioned beforehand, I don't mind Erotica writings. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
PWP. Porn-Without-Plot. ABSOLUTELY NO. I can amuse myself with reading them, but I have no particular desire to beta one. They tend to get boring after a while.
