Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I love helping others improve as writers. I tend to be incredibly in-depth and will put a significant amount of time into the stories I'm asked to beta. I try to comment on the good as well as the bad, but I am honest in my work, and if you can't take constructive criticism gracefully then I'm not the beta for you.
I do require that the author make the story the best it can be before sending it to me. The point of a beta is not to have someone rewrite your rough draft, but to have someone help you improve on your best work. At the absolute least, I expect the story to be read over at least once and run through the spell-checker. If you're too lazy to hit the spell check button, then I'm too lazy to beta your work. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
My biggest strength is in the prose itself. I'm very good at correcting awkward sentence structure, pointing out vague passages, and helping to tighten prose in general. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
Punctuation would be my weakest point. I'm prone to flubs in my own writing, particularly an overabundance of commas, and while I'm better at catching such mistakes in the work of others than I am in my own, there is a possibility that I'll overlook a few things. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I'll happily beta just about anything. I prefer slash/yaoi, but I'll accept het and yuri as well. I'll be able to do a better job with fandoms I'm most familiar with, but as long as you don't expect commentary on how in or out of character the characters are, I don't mind being a beta for fandoms outside of my experience. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
Nothing that comes to mind. I'm pretty open minded. |
