Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I give positive feedback, but I'm honest when I do so and my criticism is always constructive. My first sweep of the story is usually for any spelling mistakes, my second for grammar and syntax, then the rest for the story proper. I enjoy new takes on characters just as much as when they act exactly like the source, but if I think someone's too out of character, I will tell you so. My take on fanfiction is to bring something new to the table, I try something different every time I write and I try to be flexible. I'll encourage you to take new directions sometimes and I'll only ask that you consider my advice. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
My strength as a writer usually comes from characterization, while I don't always do things exactly like the creator I like to explore motivations behind characters, especially the villains. While I am mainly into horror, I love comedy as much as the next writer and some romance as well. I would like to apply my hand in all categories eventually, though. I am also a bit of a stickler for proper syntax and spelling, but I won't beat you over the head for using a comma outside quotes. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I don't always catch spelling errors before they get out, and sometimes homonyms give me a bit of trouble. I also have some trouble with continuity if I go too long between sections of a story. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I do love horror, and angst is always fun to read, but other than that, I'd be fine with any genre really. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
I don't really care for most self-insertions, but I'll take exceptions to the rule if you don't just run around saving everybody. I also prefer no poetry, I think it's fine but I'm really no judge of it. |
