Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
Writing has always been a hobby of mine, mostly short story stuff. I love to tell stories...to paint pictures. Since becoming a fanfiction writer I have spent time both reading and writing fanfiction. Reading other's fanfiction has helped me to write mine as I see styles that I like and mistakes to avoid. As a beta-reader I would apply those traits that I've learned for my own writing to the writing of others.
I must admit that I'm a bit of a stickler to canon. Anything that doesn't live up to the canon of a specific show is going to come under scrutiny...in reading, writing, and beta-reading.
One more thing, I'm currently a grad student, so even though I'm willing to look at stuff, my time may be limited. If you're willing to have a little patience with me, I'd be more than willing to help you in whatever way that I can. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
My strengths as a beta/writer are my knowledge of the shows that I write about. I know the shows and I know the characters. Due to my insistance on sticking to canon, I will not attempt to write anything that I'm not comfortable with or have a connection/understainding of. I also am a storyteller and an avid reader. I know what readers look for and how to draw them into the story so that they can't "put it down." An idea is only an idea until it is morphed into a story. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
My greatest weakness is my grammar...specifically punctuation. I tend to add too many commas to my writing. Sometimes my instance on sticking to canon can also be a weakness...because it often cuts the imagination short. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
Due to my knowledge of specific shows, I would prefer to beta for those shows so that I can offer better help. My preferences are as follows: Stargate SG-1, Lie to Me, and Sanctuary. I'm willing to attempt beta-reading for other shows, but would only be able to help with style of writing, not with actual content. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
I prefer not to beta overly explicit stories or stories that stray so far from the canon that basically the names of characters are the only resemblence to the show. If you aren't interested in constructive criticism and making the story closer to the canon, I'm not the beta for you. |
