Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
So, how do you do?br /

Call me Aqua.br /

First things first, I will be glad to help anyone who wants it. I would gladly help with edits in spelling, grammar, characterization, description, word flow, tense, plot, or writing style. I expect the people I beta to have some sense of basic English (as I can't do any other language, except Chinese, to a degree, though the gap is narrowing daily) grammar and spelling, but, obviously, there will be typos in every draft, and that's no problem at all. If you want my help, and I'm fully active, I'll be there.br /

Just, please, I beg of you, don't complain if you believe that I'm being harsh. Beta Reading is not meant to be particularly gentle. I'm critiquing your fic. Not necessarily you, but your fic. If you can't take that, then perhaps you shouldn't ask for a Beta. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
Spelling, Grammar, Word Flow, Tense, Plot, Writing Style. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
Description, Tones (especially for lighthearted or humor fics, I find myself too serious at times). However, because I value and wish to utilize the reader's own imagination, I am unwilling to work much on description... I apologize in advance. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I would prefer to read humor, parody, romance, adventure, or suspense genres. I haven't done much Mystery but I'm sure it'll be a fun challenge. I'm not much of a poet but I'll do what I can. Decent tragedies are a definite plus, even if I'm the sort who adores happy endings. All in all, whatever's listed in my preferences is what I'd enjoy reading, so don't be shy. I don't bite... Hard... I think... |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
If it's not listed among my preferences, just ask. Otherwise: Pointless romance, whether it is Yaoi, Yuri, or Het, is pointless to me, but I can deal with it if it's adorable or funny. Wangsty works, as in works that try to be tragedies or good angst but instead turn out to be melodramatic and a laughfest instead of a tear jerker, are what I cannot stand. If you send a Mary Sue fic my way, make sure it's a parody, otherwise I'll call you out for it. But overall I like most types of works, as long as the author's put some decent work into it. |
