Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
Hi! My name is Vir, and I'd love to beta read your stories! My goal as a beta reader is to help people improve their plot pacing, characterization, spelling, or otherwise polish their stories. I would probably be better at editing intermediate or higher leveled writers, as I am not the most patient person in the world, though I'm willing to beta read for anyone. However, I am not the type to sugar-coat, so your chapters may very well come back covered in criticism. However, I am constructive. I will never berate you, and instead will try to be as understanding and as helpful as possible. If you want to improve, I'm ready and waiting for a request! |

I am good at spelling and picking out plot discrepancies, as well as breaches of canon and improper characterization. Also, I excel at pointing out errors in chapter and story logic, as well as word repitition and the overall aesthetic values of a work. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I am a native speaker of the english language, and as a result many of the technical parts of my language are not known to me by name. I can easily conjugate verbs and fix subject verb agreement, but I might not know the exact terminology for what I am doing, as I do it naturally without conscious knowledge of it. However, I am still in the possession of my grade school grammar books, which might remedy this problem upon further study. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I enjoy stories with OCs, as they are primarily what I enjoy writing. My fandoms of choice are Devil May Cry, Yu Yu Hakusho, Assassin's Creed, The Phantom of the Opera, Yu Gi Oh, Death Note, Flame of Recca, Eyeshield 21, House M.D., among others. Check out my user profile for a complete listing. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
I dislike overly explicit yaoi or yuri, though I will edit it if there is extreme need. Light yaoi or yuri is fine, however. I also dislike incest, unless it's canonical.
And please, for the sake of my sanity, do NOT send me script format or outlines of stories and then expect me to tell you how to fill in the gaps. I will POLISH your works, not write them for you!
NOTE: You can send me a story outline for a PLOT critique or advice for plot progression; just don't send me something only half-baked and expect me to work magic and make your story a best seller. You have to do some work, too. |
