Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I love to read and edit. I would probably reply very quickly, since I find time to use the computer almost every day.
I get extremely annoyed when people don't update their stories for months at a time. This applies to betaing, too, because I will probably get attached to the characters and want to know what happens next. I think that if you begin to share a story, you should have a general plan to finish it and carry through.
I have trouble taking even constructive and much-needed criticism, so I understand if someone doesn't like being edited, and I'd try to be nice. I do expect any author I beta to fairly consider any suggestions I give. He or she doesn't have to change anything, but if my ideas aren't even considered with an open mind, there's no point in betaing. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I think that I'm best at grammar. I especially notice that I seem to know comma rules better than most people. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I can lose focus, especially in long paragraphs. I get lost in technical descriptions. I can only give vague stylistic suggestions, and I can almost never think of titles. There's probably more, but I don't know what. Maybe overconfidence...? |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I'd read most things. I like very inventive stories (ones that don't use mainly canon characters and/or places, such as writing a story about Beaubatons instead of Hogwarts in a Harry Potter fanfic), and I think that they need the most editing because they can be confusing to readers. Remember: the reader doesn't necessarily know everything you do. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
Parodies, stories completely irreverent to canon characters, and explicitly sexual stories. |
