Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I'm on this site a lot, since it's basically my addiction, so I will definitely get anything very soon after you send it to me. I would love to beta anything, but I decided to be smart and stick to what I know: Avatar, Teen Titans, Fairy Tail, Black Cat, Victorious, Kingdom Hearts. There's more too, don't hesitate to ask.
As a beta reader, I will not only look for grammatical and spelling errors, but I want to make sure that your story is well written overall. I try to enjoy the story that I'm betaing without compromising my criticism. Sometimes this means that I cannot compliment you until I'm done looking it over.
I tend to go easy on people in reviews, but as a beta reader I tend to be much more critical/harsh. Usually I read something through once and take the general notes on it that I see. I come back later and comb through it, being more thorough and critical than the first time. Depending on the length and content of the story, it can take me up to a little over a week to get back to you.
Fair warning: beware of OC's. I tend to extremely dislike them, as I feel they take away from the story and the characters originally in it. I used one once, and I will never do so again. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
In someone else's work I can easily pick out spelling and grammar mistakes. I can also manage characterization and finding plotholes pretty well. I'm also good with making sure that everything makes sense. Sentence fluency and description are also things that I harp on about, only because you don't see enough good examples of these out there. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
Plot movement is not always easy for me, nor the pace of one specific chapter. Usually I can't help you with humor unless it's sarcasm, although I can tell you when something is not funny. I can be a bit slow with chapters, so if you want something done within a day or so, you might want to try asking someone else. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I'd love to beta friendship stories. Stories about siblings are great too, and if there's a lot of action and twists I welcome it with open arms. I can go with any rating, and I do not get squeamish easily. I like to read most anything, so I would be glad to help however I can. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
I can manage romance, but it is these I will be the hardest on, especially if they are serious, not a silly story. However, I do not prejudice against any specific pairing. I would prefer not to beta graphic sex stories, and I cannot do poetry, simply because I feel that everyone has their own style, and there really is no right or wrong. I would not be able to be critical. |
