I've been a beta for a bit over five years now (PI Accredited) and, consequentially, have beta'd many stories for quite a few authors. I prefer to exchange e-mails and then use Track Changes for my betaing. But we could also use changes over PM, with me commenting in brackets, if you prefer. I critique all aspects of your story - spelling, grammar, sentence structure, canon - as well as record my general comments/reactions to different things. br /br /

I expect you to have at least a basic grasp of how to write. You should know, for example, that a period comes after every sentence, or to capitalize character names. I don't mean to sound haughty or cruel . . . I just don't have the patience or the time to entirely reformat someone else's writings.br /br /

I will never take more than a week to get back to you with the chapter that I am currently betaing, unless I tell you otherwise in advance.

I have a good grasp of story elements: plot, characterization, past/present tense, perspective, that sort of thing. I am also confident with my grammar and commonly confused words (ie your/you're, they're/there/their, etc).

Spelling. I truly cannot spell to save my life. I do, however, have a spellcheck. =) br /br /

In terms of my own writing, I have many things I would like to improve upon. Poetry, action scenes, and descriptions, to name a few. But these things shouldn't impair my betaing. =Pbr /br /

And, of course, I am only human. Though I would like to believe that I never make mistakes, I do. I may not catch everything in your story. But I will always read the story at least twice, and I'll always do my best.

I do not beta poetry, as I am generally horrendous in that area. Apart from that . . . bring it on. ;]
