Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I’m not a native speaker of English, but what I’m studying at the university is English Language and Literature. I’m a generally polite version, so if I don’t like something about your story I’ll say it politely. I used to be a very lenient reader, but I have spent some time on Anti-Shur’tugal, so I’ve probably become a little more demanding. What I ask from those I betaread is open-mindedness. If you consider every not-so-praising comment a flame, I can’t help you improve. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I can generally spot grammar and spelling mistakes, except from fine stuff. I’m also pretty good at building tension between characters. I adore describing characters’ thoughts too. I could come up with plots as well, but there aren’t many fics that need plots, because most of them are romances, at least in the Digimon fandom. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I have an issue with prepositions; I usually to always get them wrong myself, so I can’t possibly correct this kind of mistakes. In addition, I’m not very good at spotting OOCness. I have commitment issues. My greatest weakness: SUEDOM. One of my fics actually features a MarySue and sometimes I wonder if I’m sueifying canon characters in other fics… I'd better face it, I'm one of those writers who started writing for the sake of wish fulfillment. Last but not least, I tend to give lame responses to reviews. No kidding. I want to reply to reviews to show people that I value their opinion, but I'm pretty sure my lame replies turn readers off. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
Unusual het pairings, especially if the characters have an age distance or if they’re antagonist and hero/ine. I also like adventure fics, as long as they’re not completely identical to each other (or as long as the writer is willing to put some originality later on). |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
Conventional pairings (Takari, Taiora, Sorato etc). I respect them; I just won't read if a story is centered around such a coupling, because it'll hold no interest for me. If though they're used as backgrounds to more unconventional pairings or to adventures, then it's fine. I'm also unwilling to read slash fics, unless they're well-written and rated T or below. I won't read anything rated above T in general. And I DON'T tolerate BASHING. Or sensitive issues (serious illnesses, abuse etc). |
