Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I have often been referred to as an "English geek", "booknerd", "Grammar Nazi" and perfectionist. I read a lot of books, over a wide range of fandoms, but my preferred fandoms are Obernewtyn, Bones and Harry Potter. I have acted as a private beta-reader before, and have had no complaints. I have a quick story return rate, real life permitting.
I tend to be more honest than nice, but I am studying to be a primary school teacher, so have a lot of experience in working with people who need lots of guidance. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I have a extremely large vocabulary and excellent spelling and grammar skills. I can assist with characterisation for Harry Potter, Obernewtyn or Bones stories, and also comment on general composition and structure.
Throughout my school years I always achieved top marks in English and English Literature, and was often sought out by fellow students to tutor them in essay writing and spelling/grammar.
I am studying teaching at university this year. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I sometimes can be excessively blunt, and I get frustrated when criticised seemingly randomly. And in the Bones fandom, I have little to no knowledge of forensics or science, and so I am not much help in that department.
I also suffer from a terrible case of keyboard dyslexia, meaning I sometimes have horrendous typos in my emails and stories. I work hard to iron these out though, and proof read my own work before showing it to anyone else. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I prefer stories from the Obernewtyn, Harry Potter or Bones fandoms. I'm more of a romance girl, and like stories with a bit of plot and intelligence in them. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
I won't beta any slash or PWP stories.
I am not a fan of AU stories, nor Harry/Hermione stories (for Harry Potter), but can get past that if you really want my services.
If I don't like the plot, I will give you reasons and decline to beta-read it for you. I feel that I can't offer you 100% if I don't believe in what I'm beta-ing, and I don't want to do you any disservice. But that all depends on the story. |
