Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I love reading good stories, but if the characters are OOC or if there's a total Mary-Sue, or if the grammar and spelling is horrible, I get annoyed, because it takes away from the plot of a story. I would like to help with those problems by being a beta. If I beta you're story, it is smart to take my ideas into consideration if there's a problem in the plot/characters, but if you think your way is better than mine, please, explain to me why. Don't hold your ideas and counter-arguments inside - it's your story, not mine! But at the same time, don't start giving me attitude for nothing. And another thing: I curse sometimes, mainly when I'm pissed or something, but never for no reason at all. If you have a problem with curses and don't want me as your beta because some of my stories have 'bad words,' then leave. If you don't mind but don't want to get cursed at, simply don't get me pissed. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I'm good at making characters not too OOC and making OCs not too mary-sue, like, I can tell when she's being too perfect and if the relationship is going too quick. I'm also really good at grammar and spelling, when I try to be. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I've been told I get too critical about mistakes, so if you can't take too much, I might not be the best beta for you. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
As long as it's a topic I know and I like the storyline, I'd beta it. I don't mind yaoi/yuri, and het ships are fine too. I have my favorite ships, but I'd beta a story even if it's not a pairing I support.
(check the 'Not My Cup Of Tea' section for the one exception) |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
If it's a horror/mystery that goes into detail on the murder scene, like, describing the blood and organs and all that, then I'd be too busy puking to beta it. |
