Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
Hello, fellow author! I'm a huge Glee fan who also loves Harry Potter, and I love reading fanfiction on them at FF.net. I hope I will get the chance to beta read for you, because I know what it's like to have to search far and wide for the right beta reader, and only finding those who don't quite fit one's needs, and vice versa. Please take a moment to read my beta qualifications and give me the opportunity to work with you on your story. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I am a huge grammar fan, and my favorite characters are the comma (called half-stop in some countries), the period (or full-stop) and the semicolon.
I have a number of grammar references in my Firefox bookmarks, and I'll be happy to share them with you if you need/want them. Also, I excel at brainstorming and coming up with ideas, as long as you're working with me and letting me know what you want to see in your own stories. Last but not least, I make a major effort to be respectfully honest, which I think is a very necessary quality in a beta reader. Never harsh - a major priority of mine is being approachable - but I won't deny it if I believe something needs fixing. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I get writer's block, too - everyone does! - so although I will do my best to help you, I'm not an idea machine, as you can probably tell from my own story count. Also, while I'm pretty knowledgeable on the topic of comma rules, they still give me trouble every once in a while. Nonetheless, if I can help you at all, I'll be more than happy to do so! |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
HP: I prefer Draco stories, particularly ones where he ends up doing the right thing. I also love reading drama- and angst-style fics.
Glee: Again, I prefer reading angst and drama, and romance is great, too. I'm a huge Sam fan, so I love reading stories about him. Glee ships I like are: Samcedes, Quam/Fabrevans, Klaine, Tike, Finchel, Wemma and Cannon (nickname for Cooter Menkins/Shannon Bieste). I will read about other ships on a case-by-case basis. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
I will not beta stories that are inappropriate for teens (around, say, age 16), because even though I'm 26 years old, there are a number of aspects of adult-oriented literature that I still don't enjoy. For example, I can definitely stand reading stories with fighting (after all, there is plenty of fighting in the Harry Potter series!), but I will refuse to continue reading a fanfiction if it is graphically or grossly violent. (Hint: I like Monty Python [SPAM, Parrot Sketch, etc.], but can't sit through the violent scenes, no matter how funny the punchline might be.) |
