Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I make changes in brackets and highlight them- it's up to the author to decide whether to use the changes I made.
I expect authors to have a basic grasp of mechanics, including spelling, capitalization, and punctuation- I shouldn't have to capitalize Harry's name for you. If possible, use a spell-checker. I expect a well-written story that has some depth to it, and displays some literary talent. I expect the author to consider any changes I make, and provide feedback should those changes be contrary to the direction in which the story is moving. In return, I'll explain any changes I make other than spelling or grammatical fixes.
I'll likely have chapters/stories back to you within a week at the latest. If I am unable to do so, I'll let you know upon receiving a chapter or story. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
Grammar and spelling, concise writing, sentence structure. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I tend to be overly formal with my corrections. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I'm only interested in beta'ing in the hp fandom at the moment, though that may change in the future. I prefer slash or femmeslash stories, particularly those with Harry/Any Slytherin Character, though there's almost no slash pairing in the HP fandom that I won't read- I'll let you know if your story happens to contain one of them. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
I don't particularly like stories where the main pairing is Harry/Ginny, Harry/Hermione, or Harry/Cho, though I'll make an exception if it's well-written. I won't read anything with an obvious Mary-Sue or Gary-Stu, unless it's meant to be a crack!fic. |
