Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I’m pretty friendly, and I’m happy to look at your story and try to help you out. :)
That being said, a few things - I am here to offer advice, not to fix every single small mistake. Don’t send me something that isn’t spellchecked. Also, if you have a grammatical error, I will correct and explain it the first time it occurs. I’m very busy, and I only do line-by-line proofreading for my best friend (who, it is worth noting, generally makes few enough errors that it doesn’t take me very long).
Also - I only listed a few of the fandoms with which I’m familiar, the ones that seemed to be the most popular or that I particularly like. If you’d like me to look at something from a fandom that I didn’t list, you’re still welcome to ask - I might know it and have left it off solely to avoid cluttering up my profile.
Try me; I don’t bite. :) |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I am very good at spotting and fixing Mary Sues. If people have told you that your character is one but you don’t know why, or if you think she might be and can’t tell, I would be more than glad to offer not only an opinion but advice on fixing her.
My specialty is plots - I write a lot of mystery (mostly in original fiction; you’ll notice my member profile here is rather bare), and I’m very good at coming up with clues and plot twists and ways to tie everything together. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I’m not particularly good at coming up with filler, like action and dialogue. I can help you develop an outline for something, but fleshing it out is a different story.
I’m not particularly patient. XD If your story is a hundred-thousand word epic, I’ll probably refuse to do the entire thing. That being said, if you’d like me to read the first couple chapters and provide some general advice, I’d be glad to. :) |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I like stories that strive for originality. I’ll gladly accept stories that interpret exact scenes from canon, but I actually prefer AU. If you want to send Harry Potter to Africa in order to save his parents in a parallel dimension or rewrite a Jane Austen novel in the style and genre of a James Bond movie, I’m interested. ;) |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
I’m generally pretty open. I won’t read pure smut - not because I have a problem with adult content, but because I want a plot to go along with. As for pairings, I’ll read just about anything. I have no problems at all with slash. I do have problems with bigotry - if you don’t like something, just don’t write about it. Also, I don’t beta poetry. |
