Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I am an English girl who will soon be starting an English Language course in college (and received a high grade in the subject at a school level) and I am interested in improving my skills in proof-reading and editing. I naturally write in British English, but I am comfortable enough with American English to also be efficient at editing in that style if you so wish. I have a critical eye for mistakes in spelling and grammar so I am more than willing to help if that is something you struggle with.br /

I am most likely able to stick about for longer projects, so if you have a multi-chapter work that you need some assistance with I would be more than happy to help. Short stories are also fine, of course. I do prefer certain pairings when reading a romance work, but I probably won't discriminate if you do end up asking for something that I'm not entirely fond of.br /

My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
My greatest strength is my knowledge of spelling. Grammar comes a close second, as well as establishing a better flow in some more awkwardly written prose. If a word is particularly inaccurate I am easily able to pick up its true meaning from the context, so if that happens it is never a problem. If it is a fandom that I am used to I tend to work far better due to knowledge of the context, but if it isn't then I can easily do some research for the sake of learning more. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I have occasional tense problems, but I can pick that up easily given another look through and should be able to change it. I can occasionally be quite critical, but if you don't wish to hear anything like that then do just let me know and I'll keep it to myself. However, sometimes that can be quite a helpful tool for improving your fiction so it really depends on your preferences. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I prefer stories from video game fandoms, especially those in the Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts series. Anime/Manga is also fine too, but books and TV shows would be a lot harder for me. I prefer yaoi/slash, although I can proofread het if you wish me to. While I prefer more mature stories I would also be happier to look at others, so don't feel put off if your story is of a lighter rating. If you tell me what I will be working with I will try and do some research into it, but I will be more willing to accept stories where I am already fairly familiar with the subject matter. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
I'm not really interested in being a beta for yuri. I have nothing against it, it's just not my cup of tea and I don't feel that I would be able to do it justice as far as the editing process is concerned. |
