As a beta-reader, I'd be reading to help people make their stories better/check for error, etc. This would mean me contributing extensive input, and an author has to be willing to take a decent amount of criticism. It depends on the story, of course, but nothing is perfect and there is always room for improvement. My beta-style would resemble my writing style, so I suggest looking over a bit of my recent stuff to get a good idea of what kind of stories I'd be most helpful with. If the plotline's not ridiculous, though, I'm generally happy.

I'm an awesome English student, which is to say that I'm good with spelling/grammar/etc. I'm better with portraying emotions and tend to analyze characters and their mentalities, so if your story centers around things like that, I'm sure I can help you. I enjoy description and could also give you advice on how to make the action/battle scenes in your story more engaging.

Unless romance is paired with another major element in a story, I probably won't know what to do with it - so stories that have nothing but fluff are not for me. I try not to nitpick but when something needs it, I can't really help it. I'm a bit of a perfectionist, so if I'm beta-reading a story, that trait will definitely take its toll. Unless you plan to give extensive detail on your original characters, too, I won't be able to grasp onto his or her place in the story.

While I'm an Avatar fanatic and love everything about it, I'd prefer to beta stories that center around the current Avatar characters. I enjoy original characters, but I'd prefer it if the entire story (unless it's a oneshot or it has a short storyline) was not completely centered on an original character. I personally get lost in the point of a story if this is the case. Other than that, I like all reasonable ships (no crack/slash/etc pairings, please), though I generally lean toward Tokka and Kataang. I also enjoy stories that inlude or center around emotion or delving into the character's mind, as I stated once before. Stories that involve death or some sort of other tragic event/theme are loved.

I would prefer not to beta read stories in which the writer has placed him or herself; not only does this place me in an awkward situation as a beta-reader, I also don't generally get interested in them enough to be productive or helpful to you. Also, if your fic generally centers around one theme, I probably won't enjoy it. A well-balanced story should always include more than just one major theme (like, not just action or just romance, etc).
