Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I love writing. It's a major hobby of mine. The worlds I create always make me feel at ease. When I beta a story, I read through it once, to figure out the plot and the presentation so I have an idea of what's going on. Then, I re-read the story several more times, each time editing for mainly grammar and spelling. Since my own learning experience, I'm also a lot more nitpicky about whether or not an OC is becoming a Mary-Sue (if you want me to check if your characters in-character - besides your OC - you'll have to let me know!). I'll also help anyone who needs advice with advancing their plot or their story in general. I don't think I have much in terms of expectations for anyone wanting me to beta their story - I'm willing to read stories of any level. My only requirement is that when you submit your story to me, to please let me know exactly what I should be editing in their story. If you just want me to check grammar and spelling, I'll only check that. If you want me to make sure the characters are in-character, I'll do just that. If you want me to do everything under the sun, your wish is my command. I hope I can be of service! |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I'm a major perfectionist when it comes to writing - I edit my own stories before I begin writing, while I'm writing, before the chapter is even finished, and a few times before I publish. It must be just right, to me. I also have a knack for keeping characters in character (but only with animes/movies/games that I've seen). I've have several learning experiments to help with that. I have some experience beta-ing stories here on FF.net unofficially - I occasionally beta my little sister's works before she publishes (you can find her as KRenee). Lastly, I love to read, so it doesn't matter how long or short something is, I'll read it gladly. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
While I've improved on it, as a writer, I have to still be careful to keep my OC's from becoming Mary-Sue, specifically in the fanfics that take place in animes where characters have special powers. Another problem I have is motivation - I'll will read anything without hesitation, but when it comes to me actually writing a story, I have a bit of trouble getting myself started. That might have something to do with working on several projects at once, but when a new plot doesn't leave me alone, I just have to start it. I'm good at overwhelming myself too, combining this with work and school (when I'm at school). |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I prefer beta-ing stories that take place in fandoms that I know. I know the plot of the original work, I know the characters, and therefore I know best how to approach editing your story. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
Stories that occur in fandoms that I don't know are tricky, precisely because I don't know the flow of the original work or the characters. If push comes to shove, I can always do some research on the fandom to get a feel for it, but I think that my Beta skills wouldn't be as well-applied to the story. |
