Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
As a Beta Reader there are two things that I look for when I grade your story:
1) Grammar/Punctuation.
- Simply put, If you send me a story that goes along the lines of: "Kims and Ron hads sex. the end." I will not be nice in my grading of your story. I'll critique it to the best of my ability but don't be surprised if you get a sarcastic response back from me. It's just my nature.
2) Story.
- I grade on story content (i.e. originality, plot, characterization, etc). This is where I put out my response to your storyline in general. If I think you have potential, but need some help with getting the story down on paper...then I'll see what I can do. Which will be my best.
When I critique a story, I usually do the positives and the negatives. It works for me to do this simply because you can see what needs improvement and what needs to stay the same. As for me, I do not hesitate to say what I think of your story. That means that if it sucks, I will say so. Better that your beta reader says it to you in private then everyone says in a public review. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
My strengths include looking amazing and...oh wait...beta reading strengths. Got it. My strengths include the grammar and proofreading. I'm a stickler for good grammar and will call you on something if I think it's out of place. Word of advice, there's a difference between your and you're.
I have a decent sense of humor when reviewing and I am somewhat easy going on first timers to this website. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
My personal weakness is sometimes being too nice and not trying to offend the reader. If I lie to you, that does neither of us any good and will only hurt you.
My other weaknesses include sentence structure and descriptions in the chapter.
That and my sarcasm when reviewing a story. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I prefer to read stories that have a point, not "Kim and Ron had sex. The end."
Nothing like that, but stories that have a point and a story arc. Captainkodak1, Zaratan, Mattk, Silverwolf05 and others out here have that idea down. I prefer to read either comedies or epics. Epic along the lines of scope. A flat out enormous battle never hurt a story...unless it's an angsty story. In which case you might want to change the subject description of the story. I also like to read stories that involve the fate of all resting with our band of heroes and where the author tries something we haven't seen in a while.
I'm up for doing stories as they come to me. Do note that I haven't even heard of some sections that you might send me, so be warned that I might not become a beta reader for you. Generally, I like to beta read Kim Possible stories. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
Stories that aren't my cup of tea are limited. However they include, Kigos, Drakkims, basically pairing of the same genders and alternative pairings. I just can't get into them as an author and I always get a headache before the end of the chapter. So if you're thinking of sending me a story like that...know that I will say no. |
