Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
If you know who I am, you know my style of writing and what I'm interested in. I'll take on any kind of writing, though, and I'm familiar with a lot more fandoms than I write.
As I state later, the only thing I won't betaread is a fanfic that was written by someone who despises criticism. Betareading isn't about being praised, it's about corrections, and when taken well it can change mediocrity into fantastic writing.
I'll give a critique, and if you don't take it to heart, that's fine. It's up to you to choose which rules to break. I'm fine with anything as long as you don't whine and say, "Well, so-and-so told me that this was good, so I guess you just don't know what you're talking about!" If you act like you're four years old, you'll be treated as such.
And if I sound really mean, I'm not... I'm just annoyed easily by those who reject criticism that they specifically asked for...
NOTE: My fandoms are limited to what I felt like adding. (It's annoying, having to add every title I like...) If you want me to beta a fandom that isn't on my list, just PM me to see if I've read it. 'Kay? |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
Grammar
Flow
Plot
Characterization
Continuity
Getting rid of cliches or giving them a new twist
Generating ideas
Slash (that one's obvious)
Any variation of "angst/drama"... |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
Simple romantic stories (I'm more the create-a-good-background-drama writer)
Cliffhangers (I hate those...) |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I will do ANY FANDOM. It's just easier to gauge in-character writing when I'm familiar with it...
I'd love to beta stories that need:
More substance plot-wise
Very detailed critiques
Better characterization
Realistic character reactions/emotions... But I'm open to anything. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
Any story that belongs to someone who won't take criticism. (See above.) |
