Beta Description
Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I haven’t done a lot of betareading, mostly because I’m extremely picky with my stories. So I really don’t have that much experience in that department. In spite of such, I still enjoy reading peoples’ stories and giving feedback on making it better (only promising stories, mind you) than it already is. Even if I tend to skip over quite a few grammatical and spelling errors of my own, I’m pretty good and picking it out from other peoples’ stories. I enjoy reading other peoples’ fanfictions moreso than writing my own, but I still love writing.

Since I’m currently on a leave of absence from my school, I have quite a few spare time on my hands. Even so, I’m squandering it on other issues (examples would be a few of my own original fictions and “A Rose for the Apathetic—see my main profile for more details).

I like to consider myself friendly, but only under the condition that you’re not a total idiot and that you don’t submit horribly clichéd fanfiction. So if you and I end up getting along, I tend to get chatty and such. Of course, if you don’t have time for friendly banters, I’m not going to be put off by your not responding.
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I’m very frank with my critiques (well, this can go both ways, really). Normally, I try to keep the more negative aspects slightly lighthearted, though sometimes that doesn’t always work. The good thing is that I’m an objective betareader. Meaning, when I give you a critique, I tend to pick out parts I liked and parts I don’t like. I’m fairly good at catching grammar and spelling errors.

Another thing I do is quote parts that I think need fixing and make suggestions on how to improve your writing. I do not expect you to follow all of them; in fact, I don’t want you to. Those are merely there as a head’s up for your part.

A few of my key elements are: concept, description, dialogue, and lucidity.
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I’m not the most diligent person in the world, so it’s going to take me a while to get your story back to you. So if you’re antsy-pantsy about getting a chapter or a new story out, I don’t think you’d want me as a betareader. I also tend to look over stories to excess (partly because I’m anal retentive).

Nitpicking is another one of my weakness as well as rambling. So if you’re not a complex person like myself, it’ll probably be difficult for you to pick out the essence of my critiques. As for nitpicking, I just tend to add them in as a bonus; I really try my best not to mean you any harm, but sometimes it just happens.

Finally, sometimes I can be a bit too frank to the point where I come off as unintentionally scathing and maybe even a little mean. But I think this can be remedied if I work hard to try and lasso myself into place
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
OCs are nice and so are canon characters. I don’t mind both of them, but I will get a bit iffy with crack pairings. You can get as crazy as you want, but then I’ll be quite vicious with the actual content of your story.

I’m not a very romantic person, and I prefer action/adventure stories that normally involve swords, catapults, and any weapons that are pre-nineteenth century. Even so, I will beta romance-themed stories if you really want me to.

I especially love stories that take place especially somewhere between the thirteenth to the seventeenth century. Guns and sci-fi stories tend to bore me a bit, but it’s not like I’m not going to do it.

Finally, hetrosexual pairings are very much preferred. If your story involves non-canon slash or femslash, don’t even think about handing it to me, because I won’t read it. Canonical shounen-ai is tolerable, however, as long as there isn’t any smut or graphic sexual contents.
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
Since there are quite a bit of stories that I simply cannot read without pushing it away, I’ve produced a list of things I don’t like:

- Smut.
- Slash/femslash
- Spiritual (as in something heavily related to Religion)
- Horror stories
- Butchery of the English Language
- Terrible plot
- Lack of character development
- Poorly constructed OCs
- Mary Sues/Gary Stus
- Crossovers (Kingdom Hearts fanfics are the only exceptions)
- Naruto-related (sorry, but I just don’t like the series)
- Poetry
- Song fics (especially lyrics pulled from “Evanescence,” “My Chemical Romance,” “Green Day,” etc)
- Character bashing
- Sesshoumaru/Kagome fics
- Sesshoumaru/Rin fics
- Anything else that doesn’t fall into the selected categories in my "beta-preferences" section.
