Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I'm a perfectionist, what can I say? If there are any little details of things that are off with something, I tend to notice. Although I've never really been a betareader before, I'm willing to give it a shot and hopefully y'all will give me a break if I miss things. I have a tendency to use the British spelling for many words, (even though I'm not British) so I'm sorry if y'all find that annoying or think I'm spelling things wrong ('cause I'm not), but that's just how I write. I've been reading since the time I picked up an encyclopedia book when I was 4 and have been seriously writing since I was nine. That's 13 years of reading experience and 8 years of writing experience. I'm in the process of writing over 30 different stories, most of which I will not be putting up here on FictionPress because I want to publish them for real at some point. Because I'm still a Junior in Highschool, it'll probably take me a little bit to get back to you about your work, but I WILL get there. Eventually. Just give me time and be patient. And if you have a deadline, tell me and I'll keep that in mind and get back to you before then. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I tend to notice when people misspell things or use the wrong words or punctuation in the wrong places, and I try to remember to tell them so that they can fix it. I also have a knack for rearranging sentences to make them flow better with the rest of the paragraph/story. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I have a hard time when people use words or sentences in another language that I am not familiar with(which is basically everything BUT English), and then never give a translation for what the character was saying. I'm sure I have other weaknesses, I just am not aware of what they are yet. But give me time. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
Nearly any fantasy, supernatural or historical fiction story. I'll read almost anything from a movie or tv show that I've seen, video game I've played or book I've read. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
I will NOT betaread any stories that are primarily MxM or FxF.
I will also NOT betaread any stories where there is devil worship or actual incantations in the text where the characters are casting spells on each other. I will also NOT read any stories where the main antagonist is beyond cruel/sadistic/twisted and the author goes into excruciating details of every evil thing that he/she does and when said antagonist ends up being the victor or 'hero' in the end and is made out to be 'not such a bad person after all'. I have a dislike for stories with a demon as the protagonist.
I will read Drama, but TOO MUCH of it gets on my nerves and makes me nearly want to go insane.
I'm not really into reading stories based off of movies I haven't seen, even if the author claims that their story has almost nothing to do with the original movie/tv show/video game/book. |
