Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
Hello! Like many of you, nothing pisses me off more than someone with a good story and poor English skills. Therefore, I am determined to do something to increase the overall quality of fanfiction so readers no longer have to spend countless hours just to find something decent to read! As far as betareading goes, I'm not out to tell you how to write your story. My main focus is going to be spelling and grammar, with tips or suggestions on transitions and flow. I'm not a big fan of choppy work. I may also give you tips on information from the work your fanfiction is based on. I expect you to know what you're writing about and have either completely read or watched the original series at least once. I'm a bit of a stickler about accuracy and specialize in Dragonball Z and YuYu Hakusho, so tell me if your work is based off the anime or manga. Also, please send me a note at the end of your work if you have anything specific you want me to check or look over (i.e. In paragraph #, is this something the character would say? Is this believable? Can you double check this part of the story?). |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I did well in my Honors and AP English classes, so spelling and grammar are fairly well covered and understood. I can usually give good advice about transitions, smoothing out choppy sentences, and explaining that periods DO exist. I'm not worried about being nice so I will tear apart your work, analyze it, and send you back the shreds. >) |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
Never ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, EVER ask me the difference between "who" and "whom." Not even six different English teachers or my mom has been able to get me to understand that concept. I also have a little trouble helping out with flow(time-wise) and really need to proofread my own work more thoroughly before I post it. Just be prepared to receive A LOT red marks, cross outs and side notes. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I prefer anything with action, angst or some kind of drama (just not over the top) and write romance. In the end though, I'll read just about anything. I'm always open to any genre. I especially prefer works about more minor characters, and please try to keep the characters in character. I love nothing better than characters masterfully portrayed as themselves no matter what circumstances are thrown at them. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
If you send me lemons, yaoi, or yuri, FORGET IT! I'm just going to turn around and flush it down the toilet and yell at you for not reading this. I can't stand yaoi or yuri, and although I read some lemons, I really shouldn't; they give me bad thoughts. Also, NO HIGH SCHOOL AU's! Please don't send works with characters completely out of character either. No stories that bash characters either. Unless it's done as a way to make fun of bashers, I don't even want to know it exists. |
