Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
Certainly, I'm not the best beta you could find, but I'm pretty sure I can at least help you.
I'm more of I'll-let-you-do-your-own-way-but-I'll-suggest-if-there's-something type of beta-reader. In all of the writers I beta-ed, I never required them to do what I suggested. But of course, I'll propose some if there's a bit abnormal. That, and...I do have tendencies of being obsessive-compulsive.
Also, I don't make my alpha-dono (a term coined by Polka-chan [my beta]; refers to the one I'm beta-ing) feel that I'm the boss. No. It's his/her story I'm beta-ing, so I guess he/she has the right to complain if I'm "bullying" him/her. But, if his/her point is proven wrong, of course we have to make the necessary actions. I'm not a grammar-nazi, that's for sure, and I won't strangle you [at all] if you mistook 'their' for 'there,' if you know what I mean.
I treat all my alpha-dono-tachi as friends, but of course not removing the professional side. You can joke or laugh or tell your love life or talk non-sense to me, as long as it's not offending. :) (Maintaining a good alpha-beta relationship would be great no?) Am I harsh? No. Definitely not. But it would still depend on how sensitive you are. I wouldn't hesitate to be frank and to point out what's wrong, so it's up to you on how you'll handle/accept it.
PS: You can complain if there's something I miss, something you're not satisfied with, and the like. And don't hesitate to ask questions when necessary. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
Characterization (because I have obsessive-compulsive tendencies regarding that). Spotting apparent 'abnormally-put' sentence/s. Obvious spelling and grammar errors. SUES/Potential sues. Putting something in quotes/dialogues. Fic ideas, basically for your plot development (if I can). Fandom-wise, I can help you with something based from anime series I know (i.e., suggest actual scenes that can help you achieve the story's momentum). |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
English is not my first language. Oh, just thought you should know.
Okay. My eyes are not as efficient if I read the draft/s in front of my PC unlike when I'm reading the hard copy. I'm more efficient when I'm doing the latter, honestly. I can definitely miss some mistakes, so yeah, so sorry.
Making long descriptions is not my cup of tea too. Along with long stories, that I tend to skip the description/s if it's getting boring (and I might end up deleting all those, especially if the description's wordy /and/ boring). Please specifically tell me if I need to focus with the description though. I'll get on with that.
Fandom-wise, I don't have much knowledge with minor characters who appears not so often in the anime series. Same with unfamiliar/unread mangas.
And, more importantly, I...well, procrastinate a lot, unfortunately. Ha ha. I love vacations and slacking off very much. But, in case you need the draft asap (like tomorrow, for example), make sure to remind me every time (even to the point of sending HATE MAILS / MAILS IN CAPS), I don't mind. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
Romance/Comedy is the genre (I think) that I excel and enjoy the most. Or...maybe Tragedy/Angst. And het, of course. Currently, Prince of Tennis/Katekyo Hitman Reborn! (Ryoma x Sakuno /5986/2786/a couple of 8059) would be the best as of the moment. I'm trying out other fandoms (and well, still a 'mada mada dane'), and if you want, maybe I'll take my chances and try one of yours, too. I also prefer one-shot over multi-chaptered stories. But, if I like the plot, then shoot. :) Canon or Future-set or AU? All would be great.
It would make me happy too if you'd let me see your Tagalog fic for you. Seriously, FFn needs beautifully-written Filipino fics that would encourage more Filipinos to 'Unleash their Imaginations.' |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
Yaoi/Yuri/Shounen ai/Shojo ai. I read BL now, but I don't dwell on it much, meaning it's far my field of 'expertise' (if I have those, yeah). And lemon (with explicit contents to be exact) of course. Also, unprepared stories. I really wouldn't dare to read stories not from the heart. Well yes, I'm stubborn like that (honestly, it's just because I don't want to do all the work for you). |
