Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
Hello, name's Slim. I'm now offering my services as a beta, if anyone so requires them.
I tend to focus on mechanics and phrasing in a story: is this spelled correctly, do the subject and verb agree, is the comma in the right place? Does the story flow, or does it seem choppy? That's the first thing I notice about something. I guess I'm more about the mechanics than anything else.
While I tend to be blunt, I'll try to be as constructive as possible when I'm pointing out the flaws. Everyone deserves to be built up instead of torn down, right? |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I'm a spelling and grammar freak; always on the lookout for misplaced commas, confused word tenses, choppy flow, etc. While I might not be a good one to go to for characterization and nonesuch, I do know a thing or two about logical behavior, I suppose. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I'm not always the best when it comes to characterization, so I might err from time to time. Same thing goes with plot holes and fact-checking. I'm buy with school much of the time, so I can't always guarantee I'll be lightning-fast with those chapters. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I have a weakness for slash, femslash, and darkfic. I'll take genfic where I can get it. I'd prefer to beta for fandoms I'm familiar with; eg. Powerpuff Girls, Simpsons, Tales of Symphonia, Disney. I can help with the mechanics on say, your Naruto fic, but I'll be no help on canon and whatnor. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
I'm not much for high school fanfics/any other painfully overused storyline that involves love at first sight. I'll be glad to help you out with grammatical issues et al., but as for the plotting and whatnot? Not gonna do it. Same goes with poorly written OC's. Sorry. |
