Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I will read pretty much anything under Harry Potter, Maximum Ride, Twilight (etc.), Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, Bones, the Gemma Doyle Trilogy, The Covenant, and She's the Man. Do not send me slash, because I will send it back with a note at the end informing you "That's not my bag, baby." And, unlike Austin Powers, I WILL mean it. I specialize in character development, dialogue, and romance. I also am here just to bounce ideas off of. I am okay with grammar, but am not perfect. I will fact-check if you ask me (ie. What were Cedric's parents' names? I know Amos, but what was his mom's name? (I'll look it up & get back to you)), but it may delay you getting your chapter back as soon. However, I will do my best to correct as best I can promptly!
I expect someone who has decent grammar (nobody's perfect), an interesting story line/idea, and an individual style. I also expect somebody who will discuss where the story is going with me and will go with their gut - whether their gut agrees with my ideas or sticks with theirs. My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
Romance, comedy (or so I'm told), dialogue (of the believable teenage variety), and character development are my strengths. I also can come up with challenges at the drop of a hat, so if you're looking for an idea for a one-shot or story, I'm your girl. I'm also decent at angst, and if you need a witty/sarcastic/cynical dialogue, look no further. I am the queen of sarcasm. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
Grammar is not the greatest, and I tend to get caught up in dialogue and not add necesary details. I also have a very high standard of reading - if a chapter is just alright and you've had me reading these great, stellar chapters, I'll send it back to you and tell you that you can do better. Try not to get mad at me if I do this - I'll do my best to be helpful and not bitchy about it. Chances are good that it will be just a part of it and not the full chapter, anyway. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
Romance, Comedy, Tradegy, Angst, Comfort/Hurt.
Pretty much anything with some romance in it. I'm a hopeless addict, and ball my eyes out every time I watch The Notebook. I also like a little action and adventure, but they're not my specialties. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
No slash. Period.
I'd prefer not to read things I know nothing about (ie wrestling or Stargate - check my bio above for a list of things I am familiar with), and no Spiritual or Western. Religion scares me (kinda a big unknown) and I just don't read Westerns.
If your story is an extremely complex crossover (ie. LOTR/BtVS/Angel/X-Men/Stargate/HP), I can not handle that. I have a limit of 2 shows/books/movies in one fic, and even then, that's a bit of a strech for me to wrap my head around. |
