Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I am the type who enjoys helping authors with creating a higher caliber of work. I abhor reading stories with horrible grammar, the spelling mistakes of a 5 year old, and the apparent lack of knowledge in proper sentence structure or punctuation. It makes me sick, and I will do anything I can to eliminate such trash from a wonderful site, such as this. My style is to make notes and changes to a story, show them to the author, and if they approve...great. If not, I explain my thinking and why the changes work. Usually that will get the authors to agree. I must warn anyone who wants my help. I can be brutally honest, but I'll never do so unless it's warranted. I don't try to be rude on purpose. If you can bare with me, I can assure you, I will help you create the best story possible. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
Vocabulary, spelling, grammar, punctuation and different writing formats. I'm used to different types of writing styles, whether it's formal, creative, descriptive, simplistic, ect. In the "real world" I've taken the usual English classes in school, along with Creative Writing, Writing Applications, and Journalism. I graduated from both High school and college with Academic Honors. My career also requires a high level of rhetorical prowess. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I tend to overuse commas...and sometimes I use big words or get too wordy when simple is better. I also have a tendency to procrastinate...though it's usually dependent on my mood. So if it's going to pop up, I'll give fair warning. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I'd prefer dealing with authors who are regular updaters, organized and have strong writing skills on their own. I don't like dealing with hopeless cases. If I have to do too much it ends up being my story more than theirs. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
I HATE most m-preg stories, and I think stories where the gender of a character is changed is a complete waste of time. Also, if the plot if half-assed to begin with, I doubt my skills will do much to change that. |
