Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
Hi... I'm DutchAver, I live in Holland, so English is not my mother language, although I'm improving it. I've never Beta'd for English stories, but I'd like to give it a try and I'm sure I can help your story out with the plot. I can recognize most of the spelling mistakes as well.
If you want to have one of your stories beta'd then I will be very critical. I usually compensate that with compliments at points, but I can't - and won't - sugarcoat everything. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I'm very quick in replying because I'm good in planning, so you might just get your story back very quickly. My spelling is also usually correct, although I can fail to see some spelling mistakes, but that's rare.
I'm also good in seeing if you sometimes need more descriptions or if you need to put more time in something that happened in your story. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
Grammar. As I already told you, I'm Dutch; usually, my tenses and things are correct, but I can fail to see some weird sentences because English is simply not my mother language.
And, because English is not my mother language, I don't really know the meaning of some words. For that, however, I use either babelfish or my best friend, Mr. Dictionary.
I also have a strange sense of humour sometimes, so I'm not always that good in recognizing the jokes in your stories. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I prefer writing for a fandom I know, you'll see below what fandoms I want to beta. I'm good at pretty much every genre and I will accept almost everything. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
I HATE stories with shippings with a little too big age difference. One famous example is Harry/Dumbledore.
Also, please, don't come asking me if I want to beta a story for a fandom I don't know - I prefer understanding the story as a whole and that's impossible if I don't know the fandom.
I accept almost everything in genre except for one thing and that's parody, simply because I always lack the sense of humour to understand it and find it funny. Other than that, everything's ok. |
